About Costco

Costco is a membership warehouse club selling brand-name goods, from groceries to appliances, in its warehouses and on Costco.com.

It began in 1976 as Price Club in San Diego. The number that matters most for saving here is the membership itself: $65 a year, or another $65 for the Executive upgrade that pays a 2% Reward.

Costco traces its roots to Sol Price's Price Club, which first served only small businesses before opening to selected non-business members. Jim Sinegal and Jeff Brotman then co-founded Costco Wholesale and opened its first warehouse in Seattle in 1983. The two chains merged in 1993 as PriceCostco, and the Costco name returned in 1997. Today it runs warehouse clubs in 14 countries, keeping each warehouse to about 4,000 SKUs against roughly 30,000 at a typical supermarket.

Beyond its own Kirkland Signature label, members get services such as optical, pharmacy, photo, travel, gasoline and hearing aid centers, and Costco.com adds Costco Direct and Business Delivery. Nonmembers can buy some items online but pay 5% more, and online prices can run above warehouse prices.

How to use a Costco promo code

  1. On the CostCo.com pages checked, savings showed up as member prices and online deals, with no code box described.
  2. The online-only weekly savings, for example, ran Oct 5-11, 2026.
  3. Compare before you click buy: Costco says online prices may be higher than in its warehouses, so the CostCo.com deal isn't automatically the cheaper one.
  4. Without a membership, the 5% nonmember surcharge cuts into any saving.
  5. Costco's merchandise return policy couldn't be read for this page, so look it up on CostCo.com before ordering a big appliance.
