How we check codes
How we check codes
A code is only worth your time if it's fresh and real. So every offer on Offertium tells you how fresh it is and how we know, and "Verified" means someone actually checked it. Here is how that works, in the order you'd meet it on a store page.
What this means for you
You can see how fresh every offer is
Each one carries the date of its latest sighting or check, and says which kind it was, so you can judge it in a second.
"Verified" is earned
It appears only after a recorded check at the store's checkout, or a confirmation from the store or its affiliate network.
People and scripts both check
Our editor checks codes by hand at the store's checkout, and our own scripts try codes in real carts, re-read offers and drop the ones we can't confirm again. Each label says which kind of check stands behind it.
The numbers are real
Store facts come from the store's own pages, and a saving we've seen applied in a cart is labelled that way. You won't find star ratings, "used 250 times" counters or "100% working" promises here, because we can't back them up.
Codes are meant for everyone
We list codes anyone can use, and leave out codes that look tied to one customer, such as birthday codes, account numbers and one-time strings.
Stale offers leave
An offer we haven't seen again within 30 days drops off the page.
Every store page is edited by Danica P., our editor, and reviewed by Ivan P., our founder. The wider rules for our content are in the editorial policy.
Where offers come from
The store's own website
A site banner, a promotions or sale page, a sign-up offer, or a program page (student, military, rewards).
Store newsletters and emails
Welcome codes and the promotions stores send to subscribers.
The store's social accounts
Public codes and sales posted on its own Instagram, Facebook, X or TikTok.
Affiliate network feeds
Under Offertium's own publisher accounts, such as Awin and Impact, once a store's program has approved us.
Exclusive codes
Issued to Offertium by a store or a network.
Codes shoppers send in
Listed only after a check.
Other public promotions
Codes and sales a store has made public elsewhere, listed under the same rules and checks as everything else.
Codes that look personal or single-use (birthday codes, account or order numbers, long generated strings) are never listed. When a store's affiliate program limits which codes may be published, its rules apply.
What each label means
The labels you'll see on an offer, from the strongest evidence to the weakest:
- Verified {date}
A recorded check backs it: the code worked at the store's checkout within the last 14 days, or the network or the store confirmed it within the last 30 days. After that the offer shows its source label again.
- Checked {date}
The code worked in a real cart at the store on that date: the store accepted it and took the discount off. No purchase was made. It isn't the same as Verified, which an editor confirms at checkout by hand (see cart checks).
- Seen on {store}'s site · {date}
We read the offer on the store's own site on that date. It hasn't necessarily been tried at checkout yet.
- From {network} · updated {date}
The offer came from the affiliate network's feed; the date is the feed's own last update.
- Last seen {date}
A code we haven't tried ourselves yet, dated by when we last saw it published. Treat it as worth a try rather than a sure thing. Once it works in our cart check, the label changes to "Checked {date}".
- Top offer
- The offer that comes first under our ordering rules (see the affiliate disclosure). Nobody pays for it.
- Last checked {date}
- The date and method of the latest recorded check.
- Offertium exclusive
- A code issued to Offertium by the store or its program.
- Worked for {n} shoppers
- Shoppers who answered "Yes" to "Did it work?" in the last 30 days, shown once at least 5 shoppers have answered.
All dates are calendar dates: no "2 hours ago", and never a date in the future.
How a code gets checked
"Verified": by hand, at checkout
Our editor puts products in a cart at the store, without being logged in, enters the code and notes whether the store accepted it and what it took off. No purchase is completed. A first-order or single-use code is checked as far as the store allows and otherwise described from the store's own terms.
"Checked": our cart checks
Some codes are tried automatically in a fresh, logged-out cart at the store, and we record whether the store applied the code and what it took off. The check never goes past the cart, and it never counts as Verified.
Products go in a fresh cart
Logged out, a new cart for every code.
The code goes in the promo field
Exactly as a shopper would type it.
We record the result
Whether the store applied it, and what it took off.
And stop there
Never checkout, payment or an account. The check identifies itself to the store.
Codes tied to one person and single-use codes are never tried. A code that worked shows "Checked {date}" for up to 60 days. If we later see it on the store's own site, that newer date is shown instead.
Offers from an affiliate feed
A network feed tells us the store issued the offer, its dates and its terms. It doesn't prove the code works today, so a feed offer keeps its source label until a check is recorded.
Offers seen on the store's site
We read stores' own promotion, shipping and policy pages and keep a copy of each page we read. The label shows the date of that copy. A time-limited banner is treated as an offer, never as a store policy.
"Last seen" codes
Some codes we list haven't been read on the store's own site or tried in a cart yet. We list real codes only: no "no code needed" placeholders, nothing that looks personal or single-use, and nothing past an end date. They're listed after the offers we've read on the store's own site, unless a cart check confirmed them: then they show "Checked {date}" and rank with those offers. A code that fails our cart check is taken off the page.
How long an offer stays listed
An offer read on a store's site or received from a feed stays listed for 30 days from the date on its label; a "Last seen" code stays up to 60 days. If we don't see it again in that time, it leaves the list, and it comes back with a new date when we find it again. When shoppers report a code as failing (three or more reports in seven days, with at least 60% saying it failed), it moves to the bottom of the list.
How we count our cart-test figures
On a store page, the "Cart tests" line ("34 codes checked last 30 days, 97% worked") counts every code we tried in a real cart at that store in the last 30 days. Each code counts once, by its latest test, so a code we re-check every day doesn't lift the figure, and a code that failed and left the page still counts against it. Tests our cart couldn't finish (for example, a product was out of stock) aren't counted. Codes the store took only with conditions count as worked. A store shows the figure only once we've tried at least 10 of its codes in that time.
In an offer's details, "Worked in 3 of 3 cart tries since Oct 20" counts every test of that code in the last 90 days, from 2 tests. "Worked with conditions" means the store took the code but only for certain products or above a minimum spend; it's named next to the count. Cart tests never make a code "Verified": that label stays for a check at checkout by our editor.
Our code checks, day by day

Each code counts once a day, by its last test that day. In the totals above, a code tried on several days counts once, by its latest test. Codes that didn't work come off our pages.

Shopper feedback
After revealing a code you can tell us whether it worked. We count one answer per shopper per offer per day, over a rolling 30 days, and show how many shoppers said it worked only once at least 5 have answered. Answers never mark a code as verified, and they're stored with a one-way hash instead of your IP address.
Expired offers
An offer that has ended stays visible for 30 days in a collapsed "recently expired" list with its end date and no button. Where a store's program doesn't allow expired codes to be shown, only the offer text appears. After that it leaves the page, and we keep it on record for sales that come back every year.
Store facts
Shipping, returns, discount programs and checkout details come from each store's own pages. Each store page lists the pages its facts were read on under "Sources", with the date they were read. A fact older than 180 days isn't shown until it has been read again, and a fact we couldn't find is left out rather than guessed: no student discount on the page means the store's pages didn't mention one.
Codes you send in
A code sent through a store page or the submission form waits as pending. It goes live only after a check, with the label of that check; otherwise it's rejected, as is any code tied to one person. Telling us where you saw it (a link, an email, a receipt) helps the check.
Something wrong?
If a code didn't work or a store fact is off, let us know. Corrected facts show their new read date.
