About The Curiosity Box

The Curiosity Box is a subscription of premium science toys, experiments, puzzles and collectibles for curious adults, each item developed by the creators of the Vsauce channel, with an online shop beside it.

Codes here are one per customer and never combine with another discount, and some cover only subscriptions while others cover only shop items.

Vsauce was created by Michael Stevens, who later brought in Kevin Lieber and Jake Roper, and the three work together to design and choose what goes into each Curiosity Box. A typical box mixes science toys and puzzles with books and custom T-shirts; past boxes have included a Camera Lucida, an Orrery Calendar, a Möbius Scarf, Slide Rule Chopsticks, a Nitinol Paperclip and a Schmoyer Sundial, and a recent one featured the Ruler of the Universe, an exponential barbershop ruler.

In 2022 the box joined forces with Inquisitive, the company behind the MEL Science brand, and the site is now run by Inquisitive Inc. from Van Nuys, California. Alongside the subscription, the INQ Factory shop sells items individually, and a separate section points parents toward options for kids.

Rates appear at checkout, processing takes about 3 business days, US boxes arrive 1-2 weeks after dispatch and international ones 2-4 weeks.

More about shopping at The Curiosity Box

Plans
The quarterly plan is $75 per box billed every 3 months; the annual plan brings each box to $70, charged as $280 once a year, with a free gift.
Subscriber shop perk
Both plans include 10% off orders from The Curiosity Box shop, separate from the box price itself.
Cancelling renewals
Future renewals stop from the online profile, but a subscription charge that has already gone through is final.
Damaged or missing items
Replacements depend on notice within 4 weeks of delivery and on remaining stock.

How to use a The Curiosity Box discount code

  1. The Curiosity Box accepts codes during checkout, behind a link labelled "Have a coupon code?" that opens the entry field.
  2. Check which side of the business a code belongs to before typing it: some apply only to subscriptions and others only to shop items, so a shop code will not lower a quarterly or annual plan.
  3. Only one promo code is allowed per customer, and it cannot ride on top of any other offer, which means a subscriber already getting 10% off in the shop has to choose between that perk and a code.

If your The Curiosity Box code doesn't work

  • Exclusions: Some codes apply only to subscriptions and others only to items in the shop.
  • Combining offers: Promo codes cannot be combined with any other offer or discount; one promo code per customer.
  • End date: "Save $75 on Annual Subscription + Free Camera Lucida at Curiosity Box" ends Nov 13, 2026; "$30 Off Every Box Order" ends Nov 13, 2026.
  • Where to enter it: Enter the code during checkout by clicking "Have a coupon code?".

More reasons a code fails, and what to try: why promo codes don't work.

More ways to save at The Curiosity Box

  • Paying $280 up front for the annual plan lowers each box from $75 to $70 and adds a free gift, which during the current pre-order is a Camera Lucida.
  • The Twin Prime sale put the new box pre-order at 50% off with a code.
  • Subscribers can then use their 10% perk on puzzles and extras from the shop.
  • Keep in mind that returns cost the buyer postage unless an item is defective, and school or grant-funded purchases cannot be refunded at all.

The Curiosity Box questions, answered

How is shipping charged on a Curiosity Box order?

Shipping cost is calculated at checkout rather than fixed in advance, and international parcels are billed at the carrier's rate. US deliveries usually land within 1-2 weeks of dispatch.

Can a Curiosity Box renewal be refunded after it is charged?

Subscription charges already processed are final and not refunded. Cancelling from the online profile only stops the renewals that come after it.

Does a Curiosity Box shop code work on a subscription plan?

Some codes apply only to subscriptions and others only to items in the shop, and none can be combined with another discount.

How often does a new Curiosity Box arrive?

Four boxes are planned each year, though a box may not ship for a few months if the previous one sold out.

What does the annual Curiosity Box plan cost?

The annual plan is charged $280 once a year, working out to $70 per box, and it comes with a free gift.

Who operates The Curiosity Box?

Inquisitive Inc. runs the site, doing business as The Curiosity Box, and every item is developed by the people behind Vsauce.
