About Ohio Flame
Ohio Flame builds handmade steel fire pits, fire bowls and fire rings, plus lids, grates, spark screens, cooking gear and apparel, all from American steel.
Shipping within the continental US is free, so the price on the page is mostly what you pay. The fire pits burn wood only; there are no gas or propane versions.
Ohio Flame began in the spring of 2009, when Matt Skillman welded his first fire pit in his garage after losing a steel sales job during the recession. Skillman, a fine arts graduate of Youngstown State University, is still president and CEO, cuts out the Artisan Collection designs himself and often answers customer calls and emails. An uncle who served in Vietnam taught him to weld, and the site lists Veterans Appreciation events from 2017 to 2022.
Fire pits come in the Patriot, Liberty, Artisan and Seasonal collections, and custom designs can be requested. The steel comes mostly from Ohio mills, the company describes itself as Tier 1 American Made and compliant with the Buy American Act, and the natural steel finish is meant to darken into a patina over time. A lifetime warranty covers fire bowl steel that rusts through, rots or warps.
