About Yakima

Yakima builds vehicle racks and outdoor travel gear: roof, truck and hitch racks, bike, snow, cargo and water carriers, rooftop tents, awnings, trailers and camping gear.

US orders of $499 or more ship free. Oversized freight items and Deep Discount pieces sit on the return policy's limits list, so a big discount on a cargo box is a commitment.

Yakima started out as a modest machine shop in the city it is named after in Washington state. In 1979 the company was bought by Steve Cole and Don Banducci, both kayakers and cyclists, and by 1984 it had fitted race vehicles at the Summer Olympics with its aerodynamic fairings. Now based in the Pacific Northwest, with Portland, Oregon described as its backyard, it sells through a network of retailers as well as online.

The catalog also covers in-vehicle drawer storage, truck bed products, camp kitchens and showers, rod carriers, kayak, canoe and SUP racks, and replacement lock cores and keys, with a fit-my-vehicle tool for matching racks to a car. Yakima publishes a film series and road-trip stories, works with ambassadors such as mountain bikers and a fly fisher, and has committed to cutting its environmental footprint.

When shoppers look for Yakima coupons

Yakima coupon searches stay fairly even all year: April leads, September trails.

US Google searches, Oct 2025 to Sep 2026. Search interest, not sales.

Does Yakima offer free shipping?

Yes. US orders of $499 or more ship free; ground orders placed before 1 PM PT leave the Perris, CA warehouse within 2 business days.

How long does Yakima shipping take?

Cargo boxes and tents travel by freight in about 1-2 weeks, ship only within the lower 48 states, and can't go to PO Box or APO/FPO addresses.

What is Yakima's return policy?

Unused items in original Yakima packaging, with the packing slip, manuals and all parts, can go back within 30 days of the shipping confirmation email.

How to use a Yakima coupon

  1. Yakima puts the discount code box in the cart, before you reach checkout, so enter the code while you're still reviewing the rack and its fit parts.
  2. If the cart already shows an applied offer, a code won't combine with it, and you'll want to compare which one takes more off.
  3. Newsletter subscribers get their codes by email, so sign up before you shop.
  4. Watch the $499 line too: a code that drops a roof rack order below it could cost you free shipping.
  5. Expedited shipping isn't available over $750 or on freight, so a big order rides ground or freight whatever the code.

If your Yakima code doesn't work

  • Exclusions: Final Sale and Deep Discount items, merch and apparel, and oversized freight items are listed under the return policy limits.
  • Combining offers: Discount codes can't be combined with offers already applied to the cart.
  • Where to enter it: Discount code box in the cart, before checkout.

More reasons a code fails, and what to try: why promo codes don't work.

More ways to save at Yakima

  • The Deep Discount collection is where marked-down racks and gear land, but those items fall on the return limits list, so buy them only when you're sure of the fit.
  • Adding a needed accessory to reach $499 can be cheaper than paying ground shipping on a smaller order.
  • Lost a key?
  • Replacement keys and cores ship at flat rates of $5.00 ground or $16.65 FedEx 2-Day.
  • Express orders received before 11:00 am PT on weekdays ship the same day.

Yakima questions, answered
