About LegalZoom

LegalZoom sells online legal services: LLC and corporation formation, registered agent service, trademark and patent filings, wills and trusts, legal form templates and pre-paid attorney plans.

The detail that matters most for your money is timing, because a refund on a filed order closes the moment LegalZoom submits your documents to the government agency, even inside the 60 days.

LegalZoom dates back to 2001 and says it was the earliest business to put LLC formation and wills online. Between 2002 and 2008 it branched out to trademarks and other intellectual property, nonprofits and property paperwork, and in 2010 it added an independent attorney network. By its own account, in 2021 it became the first publicly traded US company to own and run its own law firm, called LZ Legal Services; apart from that subsidiary, it notes that it is not itself a law firm and doesn't give legal advice.

Next to its paid filings, the site has free tools such as a business name generator, a trademark search and a compliance health check, along with Doc Assist AI, eSignature and LZ Virtual Mail. Under its Accurate Filing Guarantee, a filing rejected because of LegalZoom's own mistake is fixed with the agency at no extra charge.
