About Lumen

Lumen sells a handheld breath device that measures the CO2 you exhale to show whether your body is burning mostly fat or carbs, paired with an app membership that sets a daily nutrition plan.

Lumen was started by twin sisters Merav and Michal Mor, both Ironman winners with PhDs in physiology, who wanted a quicker and cheaper way to measure metabolism than an hour-long lab test. The device estimates the respiratory exchange ratio, which compares exhaled CO2 with the oxygen the body takes in, and the app folds each reading together with sleep, meals and workouts into a daily Body State. Lumen also runs programs for healthcare providers and for health and fitness coaches. Its name comes from the unit of luminous flux, a nod to shedding light on how food and habits relate to metabolism.
