About Function

Function sells a yearly health-testing membership: 160+ lab tests a year, doctor-written explanations of your results and a personalized plan.

It costs $365 a year, charged annually, with add-on tests and imaging billed on top. The main way to pay less is $25 off your first year through a member's referral or a healthcare provider's link.

Function Health describes itself as a healthcare technology company rather than a laboratory or medical provider: the lab work and medical services it arranges are carried out by independent third parties. Its co-founders include CEO Jonathan Swerdlin and chief medical officer Mark Hyman, M.D., and the company lists a medical and scientific board of physicians and researchers from several US hospitals and universities.

Members give samples at Quest locations around the country or book a licensed specialist for a blood draw at home or at the office. The membership covers a broad panel of biomarkers, including hormone, thyroid, heart, nutrient and autoimmunity markers, and members can also arrange MRI and CT imaging. It is open to adults aged 18 and over who are not pregnant, and memberships can be bought as gifts. Function says health data is handled under SOC 2 Type II controls and HIPAA-aligned practices.
