About Marine Layer

Marine Layer makes soft casual clothing for men and women, from tees and sweaters to pants, dresses and outerwear, cut from fabrics it develops itself; the San Francisco company is a Certified B Corp.

Its most useful money rule is the price adjustment: within 14 days of ordering, one adjustment may be honored by emailing the order confirmation.

Marine Layer's founder traces the brand to a favorite vintage tee that his girlfriend threw out, which sent him looking to recreate it after moving west from Maine. That one shirt grew into a California-inspired wardrobe, and the company opened its first store on San Francisco's Chestnut Street.

Named lines include Dream Jersey Tees, the Cloud 9 Crewneck, Flex Terry Pants, Stretch Selvage, California Denim and the Better-Than-Silk Collection, which is made from Tencel. The range extends to henleys, polos, matching sets, swim, socks and underwear, and a corporate apparel service is offered. Through its Re-Spun program, Marine Layer takes back worn clothing for recycling.
