About NRS
NRS makes and sells paddlesports gear, from rafts, inflatable kayaks and SUP boards to life jackets, dry bags, paddles and river apparel, plus used gear.
Founded in 1972 and now 100% employee-owned, it ships standard ground free on retail orders to the contiguous US, so saving comes down to sales and bundles.
NRS, short for Northwest River Supplies, was started in 1972 by Bill Parks, a business professor and river runner who used $2,000 of his savings to keep an inventory of river gear in his garage, and he typed the first catalog himself. In 1977 the company made what it calls the first dry bag designed specifically for boaters, and in 2014 Parks sold the business to its employees.
Products are designed in-house in Moscow, Idaho, where NRS also runs a flagship store, following a design approach it calls Ultimate Utility. The catalog serves rafting, whitewater and touring kayaking, SUP, camping and fishing, and also covers rescue gear and straps. NRS offers the PaddleWays app for planning trips, a Learn Center with how-to content, and the Duct Tape Diaries blog.
