Rover is a marketplace where you book local pet care: dog boarding, house sitting, drop-in visits, doggy day care, dog walking and dog training.
Each sitter sets a personal rate, so what you pay depends more on who you book, and when, than on any code.
Rover connects pet owners with local sitters, walkers and trainers for both dogs and cats, and every provider has to clear a third-party background check before joining. Profiles carry verified reviews left by other pet owners, and search filters let owners narrow results by details such as pet size, spay or neuter status, grooming needs or a fenced yard.
Before booking, owners can meet the sitter in person first through a free Meet & Greet, and they can message the sitter before, during and after a stay. Each booking is covered by the Rover Guarantee, along with round-the-clock help and reservation protection; the guarantee can reimburse up to $25,000 for eligible vet care, and Rover aims to settle claims within 14 days of receiving full documentation. Private dog training is a newer addition.

Rover shipping, returns and perks
How prices work
Sitters set their own rates, and a search of your location shows what's typical nearby.
What raises the price
Holidays and add-ons such as grooming, pickup and drop-off, extra pets and extended stays.
Payment
Booking and paying both go through Rover.
Rover Guarantee
Up to $25,000 toward eligible vet care after the first $250, with care covered up to 30 days.
Reporting deadlines
Incidents must be reported within 48 hours of the booking ending, and claim documents within seven days of the injury.
Refunds
Service refunds are decided case by case after you and the sitter try to settle it.
Before you book
Every sitter passes a background check, and a Meet & Greet is free.
Rover's prices come from each sitter, so the biggest saving happens while you search, not at the payment step.
Compare the typical local rates the search shows, then look at what each sitter charges for the extras you need.
Pickup and drop-off, an extra pet or a longer stay all push the total up, and holiday dates can cost more.
If you have a promo code, enter it when you pay through Rover during booking.
Use the free Meet & Greet first, because a refund isn't automatic if the stay goes badly.
More ways to save at Rover
Book outside holiday dates when you can, since sitters may charge more then.
Trim add-ons you don't need, such as grooming or pickup, and keep stays to the nights you actually need.
A drop-in visit or dog walking can cost less than boarding when your pet only needs a check-in.
The Rover Guarantee doesn't lower the price, but it's worth knowing: eligible vet costs after the first $250 can be reimbursed up to $25,000.
