About Burton

Burton, founded in 1977 in Vermont, makes snowboards, boots and bindings, including Step On, plus snow outerwear, apparel, bags, helmets and goggles for men, women and kids.

The figure to plan around is $100: US orders at that level ship free, while smaller ones pay $9.95 for standard shipping.

Jake Burton Carpenter started the company in a Vermont barn, and Burton went on to help turn snowboarding from a backyard pastime into an established sport, partly by pressing resorts to let riders onto their slopes. The company is private, its owner is Donna Carpenter, and it is based in Burlington, Vermont, with further offices in China, Canada, Australia, Japan and Austria. Burton says it was the first snowboard company to earn B Corporation certification.

The current range runs from all-mountain, powder and park boards to splitboards and a Customize My Board option, alongside the Family Tree collection, [ak] GORE-TEX outerwear, travel and gear bags, and the Anon line. A 50 Years of Burton series is being released in drops that retell the brand's history.
