About Book of the Month

Book of the Month is a book club: each month you choose a new hardcover, or an audiobook, from a short list of selections, and you can skip any month.

New members can get a first book for $5 plus a free gift through a limited-time join offer. After that, the saving comes from skipping months and staying long enough for loyalty perks.

Book of the Month dates back to 1926, and the club points out that a number of its early picks, unknown at the time, went on to become classics of American fiction. Today its editorial team chooses 5-7 new releases a month, mostly fiction spanning thrillers, romance, fantasy, historical and literary novels, with some memoir and true crime, and it makes a point of promoting debut and emerging authors.

Members vote each year on a single winning book, get a free add-on in the box for their birthday month, and can swap a pick that disappoints for free under the club's Reader's Guarantee. A companion app runs a reading challenge with prizes and flags new selections. Gift memberships are sold too, and a gift that hasn't been redeemed can be refunded to the buyer within 180 days.

It runs for a limited time, so confirm the first-box price shown before you finish creating the membership.
