About REI
REI is an outdoor co-op selling camping, hiking, cycling, snow, water sports, travel and running gear, with REI Outlet for markdowns and Re/Supply for used gear.
Membership shapes most of the savings here. Co-op members skip the $100 free-shipping minimum and earn a 10% Co-op Member Reward on eligible full-price purchases.
Beyond the core outdoor categories, REI stocks climbing and mountaineering equipment such as ropes, harnesses, crampons and ice axes, along with complete bikes and bike parts, kayaks and paddle boards, fishing gear, and electronics like GPS units, power stations and satellite communicators. Recent brand spotlights on the site have featured Simms, BOTE and Exposure Lights.
The co-op also runs a gear trade-in program, in-person classes and events, an Expert Advice library with how-to-choose guides, and a travel section. Its REI Co-op Mastercard earns 5% in rewards on REI Co-op purchases and 1.5% on everything else.
When shoppers look for REI coupons
REI coupon searches peak in December, about 1.9× a typical month, and dip lowest in February.
Does REI offer free shipping?
Yes. Non-members get free U.S. standard shipping on a pre-tax subtotal of $100 or more, and oversize charges still apply to heavy or large items.
What is REI's return policy?
You have 90 days from purchase for a refund or replacement, by mail or at any REI store, and $7.99 comes off for the prepaid mail label.
What payment methods does REI accept?
PayPal and Apple Pay are accepted, and the REI Co-op Mastercard earns 5% in rewards on REI Co-op purchases and 1.5% elsewhere.
More about shopping at REI
- Final sale
- Memberships, lift tickets, passes, gift cards and in-store Re/Supply items can't go back, and used gear must be cleaned before you return it.
- Co-op membership
- The paid REI Co-op Membership adds the 10% member reward, no-minimum free shipping and a one-year return window.
- Email sign-up
- Joining the REI email list earns 15% off one REI Co-op brand item, not a discount on the whole cart.
- Outside the US
- Some REI orders ship abroad, but those items can't use the mail-in return process.
From REI's own pages, read Oct 19, 2026.

How to use a REI coupon
- The email offer is the one code-style discount REI states.
- Sign up first, then save the 15% for your priciest REI Co-op brand piece, because it covers a single item.
- The free-shipping threshold counts your pre-tax subtotal.
- Gift cards, memberships, special orders, shop services and rentals don't qualify for it.
- Short of $100?
- Orders can ship free to your nearest REI store instead.
- Joining the co-op can pay off on a bigger haul, too.
- The current banner offers a $30 promo card when you join and spend $50 or more.
- Gear with a manufacturing defect can come back at any time, whatever the purchase date.
If your REI code doesn't work
- Minimum order: "Extra $30 Off $150+ Orders of Gear, Apparel, & Footwear for Members" needs an order of at least $150.
- Exclusions: The free-shipping offer does not cover return shipments, special orders, prior purchases, REI gift cards, memberships, shop services and rentals.
- End date: "Extra $30 Off $150+ Orders of Gear, Apparel, & Footwear for Members" ends Nov 17, 2026; "Special Code: 30% Off Select Items" ends Nov 17, 2026.
More reasons a code fails, and what to try: why promo codes don't work.
More ways to save at REI
- REI Outlet lists markdowns of up to 40% off, so check it before paying full price for last season's jacket or tent.
- Re/Supply sells used gear, and online Re/Supply buys can be returned within 30 days of purchase.
- Socks get their own deal: 10% off when you buy three or more full-price pairs.
- Frequent REI shoppers can add the REI Co-op Mastercard, which pays 5% in rewards on co-op purchases.
- Gift cards are sold too, though they're final sale.
REI questions, answered
Does REI charge for return shipping?
Mailed returns on standard packages have $7.99 deducted for the prepaid label. Dropping the item at any REI store is the other route the policy gives.
What does the REI email sign-up discount cover?
The sign-up offer is 15% off one REI Co-op brand item, sent by email. It applies to a single item rather than the full order.
Are REI gift cards and memberships returnable?
Gift cards, memberships, lift tickets and passes are all final sale at REI. In-store Re/Supply purchases are final sale too.
Does REI ship outside the US?
Some REI orders ship outside the US, but those items can't use the mail-in return process. Rates and countries aren't listed.
