About WestJet

WestJet is a Canadian airline selling flights and WestJet Vacations packages that pair flights with hand-picked hotels and resorts, plus hotel, car rental and travel insurance add-ons.

The fare you choose matters more than any code. It decides whether a cancelled trip comes back as a refund, as Travel Bank credit, or not at all.

WestJet sells its seats across a ladder of fares: UltraBasic, Econo, EconoFlex, Premium, PremiumFlex, Business, BusinessFlex and Member Exclusive. The Flex fares can be changed at no charge, the others carry a change fee plus any fare difference, and UltraBasic tickets cannot be changed at all.

Its loyalty scheme, WestJet Rewards, lets members collect and spend WestJet points, climb status tiers and earn with everyday partner brands. A co-branded WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard from Royal Bank of Canada earns WestJet dollars on card spending. The airline also sells gift cards, accepts companion vouchers, and runs separate booking channels for business travel, travel agents, and groups and conventions.

WestJet shipping, returns and perks

24-hour cancellation
Flights cancel free within 24 hours of booking, provided departure is more than 24 hours away.
Fare types
UltraBasic, Econo, EconoFlex, Premium, PremiumFlex, Business and BusinessFlex; Flex fares change free, while UltraBasic can't be changed.
Cancelling later
UltraBasic gets nothing back, Econo returns Travel Bank credit minus a fee, EconoFlex returns it in full, and PremiumFlex or BusinessFlex refund the original payment.
Cancel For Any Reason
An optional extra, bought at booking by credit card, that returns 80% or 100% of the fare.
WestJet Rewards
Members earn and redeem WestJet points across tiers and everyday partners, and the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard earns WestJet dollars.
Gift cards
WestJet sells gift cards on its own site, usable toward a flight for someone else.

How to use a WestJet discount code

  1. The WestJet pages read don't show a promo code box, so look for one in the booking steps before payment and compare the fare total with and without it.
  2. Changes cost a fee plus any fare difference on non-Flex fares, so a code that saves a little on UltraBasic can cost more if plans shift.
  3. Fare prices and fee amounts weren't printed on the pages read, which were WestJet's US-facing site, so check the CAD fare on westjet.com in the booking flow before choosing.

More ways to save at WestJet

  • On WestJet, the lowest fare can end up the dearest trip if plans change.
  • EconoFlex keeps the full value as Travel Bank credit if you cancel, where Econo takes a fee and UltraBasic keeps nothing.
  • Points from WestJet Rewards and WestJet dollars from the RBC World Elite Mastercard build toward future flights.
  • Bundling hotel and flight as a WestJet Vacations package keeps the whole trip under one booking.

WestJet questions, answered

Can I cancel a WestJet flight for free?

Any WestJet flight can be cancelled free within 24 hours of booking, as long as it departs more than 24 hours later. After that, the fare type sets the terms.

What happens if I cancel a WestJet UltraBasic fare?

UltraBasic fares get no refund or credit once the 24-hour window has passed, and they can't be changed either.

Which WestJet fares change without a fee?

Flex fares change free. Other fares pay a change fee plus any fare difference, and UltraBasic can't be changed.

What is WestJet Cancel For Any Reason?

Cancel For Any Reason is an optional add-on that gives an 80% or 100% refund. It's run by Hopper Technology Solutions and must be bought at booking by credit card.

How do WestJet Rewards points work?

WestJet Rewards members earn and redeem WestJet points, with tiers, benefits and everyday earning partners.

Does WestJet sell gift cards?

WestJet gift cards are sold on westjet.com.
