About Zabar's
Zabar's is the New York food store at 80th & Broadway, open since 1934, and it ships gourmet gifts, smoked fish, bagels, babka, cheese, deli meats, coffee and housewares around the US.
The money rule here is shipping: UPS charges by weight and address, billed per address, so a gift list spread over many homes adds up fast.
Zabar's remains a family business, and its site quotes Saul and Stanley Zabar on slicing smoked fish by hand, stocking artisanal cheese, baking rugelach and roasting its own coffee blends. Lori Zabar has written a book on the store's history that includes recipes from the store.
Online, the range goes past deli staples to caviar, foie gras and pâtés, cheeses sorted by milk type and country, pantry goods, and a housewares department with knives, bakeware, kitchen electrics and Zabar's-branded gear. Many items, including bagels, babka and coffee, are marked kosher, and there are kosher gift boxes.
