About Aura
Aura sells a subscription digital-security service: identity theft protection, credit monitoring, fraud alerts, data-broker removal, VPN, antivirus, a password manager and parental controls.
Every plan includes identity theft insurance and a 14-day free trial, and the bigger saving comes from paying annually, which cuts 50-60% off monthly billing.
Aura was founded in 2017 under the name iSubscribed by Hari Ravichandran, who says the theft of his own identity more than a decade earlier led him to build it. In 2018 iSubscribed, together with WndrCo and General Catalyst, bought Intersections Inc. and Identity Guard, and in 2019 the business took the Aura name, combining the Intrusta and Identity Guard brands. Later deals added Pango, FigLeaf and PrivacyMate in 2020 and the parental-controls company Circle Media Labs in 2021; in 2024 Aura split off Point Wild, formerly Pango, as a separate company.
Credit monitoring watches Experian, TransUnion and Equifax and comes with Experian Credit Lock, while the Family and Kids plans add a Digital Wellbeing Score and in-game cyberbullying alerts from Kidas. Since 2022 MetLife has been the sole channel offering Aura through U.S. employers, and companies can also buy memberships for their staff.
