About Skylum

Skylum makes AI photo-editing software, chiefly Luminar for desktop and mobile and the Aperty portrait retoucher, and runs a marketplace of presets, LUTs and other editing add-ons.

The fact that most shapes a purchase is the refund split: Luminar software carries a 30-day money-back guarantee and Aperty 14 days, but presets, LUTs and extra seats are never refundable.

Skylum traces its roots to 2008, when Paul Muzok and Dima Sytnik, two photography fans who had been building gaming apps, set out to make photo editing simpler for photographers of every level. The company now has a team of more than 100 people, led by CEO Ivan Kutanin. Luminar runs on desktop and on iPhone, iPad, Android, ChromeOS and Vision Pro, with pro tools such as focus stacking, panorama stitching, HDR merge, AI upscaling, noise reduction, sky replacement and background removal.

Beyond its own apps, the marketplace sells Lightroom presets, overlays, textures, sky objects, e-books and photography courses. For businesses, Skylum offers the Luminar Engine, volume licensing and a reseller program.

When shoppers look for Skylum coupons

Skylum coupon searches peak in October, about 1.4× a typical month, and dip lowest in May.

US Google searches, Sep 2025 to Aug 2026. Search interest, not sales.

What is Skylum's return policy?

Direct purchases get the software fee back within 30 days for Luminar or 14 for Aperty; subscriptions refund only the first charge, never a renewal.

Does Skylum have a student discount?

Yes. Student Beans verification unlocks 50% off the first year of an annual Luminar Neo plan.

Does Skylum offer a military discount?

Yes. A form with supporting documents is reviewed, and a 50% off code is then emailed to the applicant.

More about shopping at Skylum

Licenses
Luminar comes as Desktop Only, All Platforms or Max, each a one-time payment; Max bundles a year of the Luminar Prime subscription.
Other groups
Teachers, first responders, new parents, charity workers, healthcare workers, people with disabilities and low-income buyers are also offered discounts.
First purchase
The pricing page shows a 10% off code inside a countdown banner, which may rotate rather than stay put.
Renewals
Subscriptions renew automatically each term unless canceled beforehand, and remain active until the paid term ends.

How to use a Skylum promo code

  1. Skylum takes codes in its checkout pop-up: clicking "Enter Promotional Code" opens the field.
  2. Eligibility discounts come first, since the student price needs Student Beans verification and the military code only arrives by email after the form is reviewed.
  3. The first-purchase code sits under a countdown timer on the pricing page, so it is worth using while that timer runs.
  4. Returning customers are offered a loyalty discount, though its amount and terms are not published.
  5. Buying Luminar through an app store instead means any refund is handled by that store, and buyers must be over 18.

If your Skylum code doesn't work

  • New customers only: "10% off your first purchase" is for a first order.
  • End date: "Take 10% Off Storewide" ends Nov 9, 2026.
  • Where to enter it: On the checkout pop-up, click "Enter Promotional Code" and type the code.

More reasons a code fails, and what to try: why promo codes don't work.

More ways to save at Skylum

  • Picking the Max license folds a year of Luminar Prime into the one-time price, and that subscription can be canceled anytime before it renews.
  • Students save most, at 50% off the first annual Luminar Neo year, while military buyers get 50% off Luminar on Desktop.
  • Presets and LUTs from the marketplace are final sales, so it pays to trial the core software inside its refund window before adding extras.
  • Eligibility questions can go to the 24/7 chat support.

Skylum questions, answered

Is there a discount on Luminar right now?

The pricing page shows a 10% first-purchase code in a countdown banner, and students can get 50% off the first year of an annual Luminar Neo plan through Student Beans.

Can a Luminar subscription renewal be refunded?

Subscriptions are refundable only on the first charge, not on renewals. Canceling before the renewal date stops the next charge, and access lasts until the paid term ends.

What does the Luminar Max license include?

Max is a one-time-payment license that includes a year of Luminar Prime, which then renews yearly unless canceled.

Are presets and LUTs from Skylum refundable?

Digital content such as presets, LUTs and tutorials is excluded from refunds, as are extra seats.

How long is the Aperty refund window?

Aperty carries a 14-day money-back guarantee from purchase, shorter than the 30 days on Luminar.
