About Red Funnel

Red Funnel runs vehicle and foot-passenger ferries between Southampton and the Isle of Wight, and sells island holidays, accommodation and attraction tickets too.

Most savings here depend on who you are and how you book: students, armed forces and Travel Card holders get set percentages off, and the promo code box sits right in the booking search tool.

Red Funnel has sailed the Solent since 1861, linking Southampton on the mainland with the Isle of Wight ports of East and West Cowes, and presents itself as the island's original ferry company. Its fleet pairs Ro-Pax ferries for cars and passengers with fast Red Jet Hi-Speed catamarans for foot passengers, and it also carries freight. Catering and retail on board are run in-house, including a gift shop and a Signature Lounge.

Through Red Funnel Holidays, the company packages crossings with island hotels, cottages, holiday parks and campsites year-round, and can add attraction, event and festival tickets as well as rail tickets and National Express coach travel. Since 2025 the Red Funnel Group has been entirely owned by Njord Partners. Its head office is on Bugle Street in Southampton.

More about shopping at Red Funnel

Vehicle fares
Off-peak day returns start from £31 each way for a car and up to 7 passengers; phone or in-person vehicle bookings mostly add a £5 fee.
Foot passengers
Prices match on the day or in advance, and seniors get discounts at the ticket office or kiosks on departure.
Changes and refunds
Flexible tickets change with no amendment fee; Saver tickets pay £5 plus any fare difference, and only eligible unused tickets are refunded.
Travel Cards
Up to 20% off Saver and Flexi fares, 10% off standard foot fares and 15% off food and drinks for regular crossers.
Loyalty points
Points are earned and redeemed only through a registered Red Funnel account, so a guest booking earns nothing.

How to use a Red Funnel discount code

  1. Red Funnel puts code entry in two places: tap "Add a Promo Code" on the booking search tool, or add it during booking.
  2. Log in to your registered Red Funnel account before you search, because points only build up on registered bookings, not guest ones.
  3. Book vehicle crossings online where you can, since most vehicle fares booked by phone or in person add a £5 fee.
  4. Choose the ticket type with care too.
  5. A Saver fare looks cheaper upfront, but a later change costs a £5 amendment fee plus any fare difference, while a Flexible ticket changes without one.

More ways to save at Red Funnel

  • Pairing the ferry with a stay is one route: booking accommodation has brought 25% off ferry travel, and attraction packages have offered up to 25% off attractions plus 15% off the crossing.
  • Island residents have had 15% off vehicle ferry travel, and the Hampshire Top Attractions tie-in gives 10% off vehicle crossings.
  • Eligible travellers between the Isle of Wight and Southampton can claim a 25% concessionary discount, and NHS patients with a companion pay a special £13.30 return foot fare.
  • Red Funnel has also held an annual Black Friday ferry sale in late November.
