Stores That Price Match: Who Does It and How to Ask

Some online stores will match a lower price you find elsewhere, but many only refund the difference when their own price drops after you buy. The rules are strict: the same item, in stock, sold by an approved seller, and a request within a set number of days.

Among the big names, JCPenney and PetSmart match a competitor's lower price, while Apple and Temu refund the difference when their own price drops. Target and Best Buy advertise a price match guarantee too, so ask what it covers before you rely on it. Here's how the two kinds of price promise differ, how to ask, and what each store's policy says.

• A price match beats or matches a competitor's lower price. A price adjustment refunds the difference when the same store cuts its own price.
• Same item only: identical model, color and size, in stock at the other seller.
• Mind the window. It can be as short as 24 hours or as long as a full year.
• Have proof ready: a link or a dated screenshot of the lower price.
• Codes usually break it. Many stores won't match a price that only exists with a promo code.

What's the difference between a price match and a price adjustment?

A price match looks outward. You show the store a lower price at another seller, and it matches it, either before you buy or by refunding the difference afterward. It's the more generous promise. It also comes with the most conditions.

A price adjustment looks inward. If the store lowers its own price within a few days of your order, it refunds the gap. Some stores call this a "price guarantee" or "price protection". It doesn't help if a competitor is cheaper, but it does protect you from buying the day before a sale.

Some stores do both. SSENSE, Vince and Floor & Decor, for example, match other sellers and also refund their own later price drops.

What rules do price match policies usually have?

• Identical item. Same brand, model, size and color. A similar product usually doesn't count.
• Approved sellers. Often authorized dealers or major retailers. Marketplace sellers and auction sites are almost always out.
• In stock and current. The lower price has to be live when you ask, not from last week's ad.
• A time window. Requests after it closes are refused.
• Exclusions. Clearance, open-box, bundles, flash sales, holiday events and member-only prices are commonly left out.
• One adjustment per item or per order at many stores.

Which stores price match?

Of the stores on Offertium, 265 publish a price policy. 215 offer some kind of price promise, and 50 say no, at least in part. Below are the ones shoppers search for most, plus a few with unusually clear terms, sorted by what they actually do.

Stores that match other sellers

• JCPenney: you have 14 days after purchase. It matches a lower, currently advertised competitor price on an identical item and refunds the difference. Bring the ad to a store, or call for online orders. Salon, optical, portrait and services are excluded, and it doesn't apply in Alaska or Puerto Rico. Seen on JCPenney's returns page, Oct 8, 2026.
• PetSmart: matches identical, in-stock items priced lower by pet, grocery, pharmacy and big-box competitors that sell directly, in store or on their official sites, with proof. Marketplaces, auction sites, clearance, special-event prices, rebates, pets and services don't count. Seen on PetSmart's returns and refunds page, Oct 8, 2026.
• The Sak: found the identical style and SKU cheaper within 30 days of buying, and it's in stock elsewhere? Send customer service a picture of the ad and it matches the price. Seen on The Sak's FAQ, Sep 29, 2026.
• Raymour & Flanigan: matches a competitor's lower price on an identical in-stock item found within 45 days, for purchases in the past 90 days, minus items on its exclusion list. Ask in store or by phone, text or chat. Seen on Raymour & Flanigan's pricing policy, Sep 29, 2026.
• Sony Electronics: for 30 days from the date of sale, it matches the online prices of authorized Sony retailers (not warehouse clubs) on the same new, in-stock item. Holiday purchases from Nov 1 to Dec 25 are matched until January 16. One match per product per customer. Seen on Sony Electronics' terms and conditions, Oct 19, 2026.
• Microsoft Store: adjusts the price if its own price drops within 60 days of receipt, and offers an Eligible Retailer Price Adjustment on qualifying new consumer products. Holiday purchases from Oct 1 to Dec 2, 2026 can be adjusted until Jan 31, 2027. Seen on Microsoft Store's sale page, Oct 12, 2026.
• SSENSE: matches a lower full-price offer from an authorized online retailer (same item, in stock, lower final price including shipping and duties, same currency), with proof within 14 days. It also refunds the difference if its own price drops within 14 days of ordering. Seen on SSENSE's price protection page, Oct 13, 2026.
• Vince: matches a lower price seen elsewhere for the exact style, color and size, with documentation, when you place the order. It also gives a one-time adjustment if vince.com marks an item down within 14 days. Seen on Vince's FAQ, Oct 22, 2026.
• SCHEELS: ask through chat in a MySCHEELS account. It matches a lower price on the same item from an authorized retailer when it's in stock on both sites, and it counts the competitor's shipping cost. Used, open-box and display items are out. Seen on SCHEELS' help center, Oct 13, 2026.
• Floor & Decor: refunds the difference if its price drops within 90 days, and matches a lower price on the identical item at another Floor & Decor in the same metro area or at a local competitor. Seen on Floor & Decor's pricing policy, Oct 13, 2026.
• Discount Tire: it matches or beats a competitor's current advertised installed price on an identical product from an authorized, non-auction retailer. Use its Found it Lower? tool online or bring the ad to a store. Seen on Discount Tire's low price guarantee page, Oct 19, 2026.
• Mattress Firm: its 365 Night Low Price Guarantee credits the difference if the same or a comparable mattress set is advertised for less within one year of purchase. Its homepage says up to 120 nights, so confirm which applies. Seen on Mattress Firm's returns and exchanges page, Oct 19, 2026.
• xTool: a 60-day price guarantee on US xTool.com orders. If the same new product is cheaper on xTool.com, on official xTool listings at Amazon, eBay, Best Buy or Walmart, or at a recognized reseller's site, you get the difference as a refund or a gift card. Coupon-only and clearance prices are out. Seen on xTool's price match page, Oct 13, 2026.
• Monument Grills: bring a timestamped screenshot. It matches a same-day lower price from an official Monument Grills store on platforms such as Lowe's, Home Depot, Amazon, Wayfair or Walmart. Orders that used a promo code aren't eligible. Seen on Monument Grills' price match page, Sep 29, 2026.

Hotels, rental cars and cruises

Travel companies usually call it a best rate or best price guarantee, and the windows are short: often 24 to 48 hours after you book.

• IHG Hotels & Resorts: if you find a lower qualifying rate for the same IHG hotel on a non-IHG website, IHG matches it and gives 5 times the IHG One Rewards points, up to 40,000 points. Claims go through an online form. Seen on IHG's best price guarantee page, Oct 19, 2026.
• Hyatt: matches a lower, publicly available room-only rate for the same stay on another site and adds 20% off or 5,000 World of Hyatt Bonus Points. Claim online within 24 hours after booking. Seen on Hyatt's best rate guarantee page, Oct 19, 2026.
• Avis: matches the base rate of a lower qualifying Avis rate found on another site within 24 hours of booking, then takes an extra 10% off. Book on Avis.com at least 72 hours before pick-up. Other rental companies' rates, coupon rates and packages don't qualify. Seen on Avis's best rate guarantee page, Oct 19, 2026.
• Carnival Cruise Line: find a lower publicly available Carnival rate within 48 hours of booking and you get 110% of the difference as onboard credit. Seen on Carnival's lowest price guarantee page, Oct 13, 2026.

UK stores with a price promise

• John Lewis (UK store): if you find a lower price at one of 25 listed retailers within 7 days of buying, or John Lewis lowers its own price, you can claim the difference. Seen on John Lewis's returns page, Oct 13, 2026.
• Richer Sounds (UK store): its Price Beat beats a genuine lower UK price from an authorised retailer, including voucher codes and member schemes, by up to £100, for like-for-like items in stock, up to 14 days after purchase. It also refunds the difference if it cuts its own price within 14 days. Accessories under £50 are matched only. Seen on Richer Sounds' help center, Oct 21, 2026.
• Screwfix (UK store): matches the same product sold cheaper at a UK high-street retailer with several stores. Claim in a Screwfix store before ordering or within 7 days. Online-only retailers, marketplaces and voucher codes are excluded. Seen on Screwfix's price promise page, Oct 18, 2026.

Stores that adjust to their own lower price

• Apple: if Apple lowers the price of an Apple-branded product within 14 calendar days of delivery, contact it within 14 days of the price change for a refund or credit. Limited-time reductions and special sales events such as Black Friday are excluded, and it's limited to 10 units of a product. Seen on Apple's sales policies, Oct 8, 2026.
• Temu: if the same item's price drops within 30 days of payment in your country or region, Temu refunds the difference. Promotional or unavailable items may not qualify. Seen on Temu's why-choose-Temu page, Oct 8, 2026.
• Marc Jacobs: a partial refund if its own price drops within 30 days of purchase, as long as the same item, color and size is still in stock. One adjustment per order, and sale-price items are excluded. Seen on Marc Jacobs' help page, Oct 21, 2026.
• Crutchfield: if its own price drops within 60 days of purchase, call while the lower price is still showing and you get the difference. Seen on Crutchfield's homepage, Oct 19, 2026.
• Rooms To Go: a 30-day price guarantee. If an item goes on sale before delivery, the difference goes back to your card. Within 30 days after delivery, you get store credit instead. Seen on Rooms To Go's common questions page, Oct 13, 2026.
• World Market: the shortest window in this group, 10 days. You get a one-time adjustment if the item drops in price, but not on clearance or holiday items. Seen on World Market's return policy, Oct 13, 2026.
• REP Fitness: a one-time adjustment, refunded to your original payment method, if REP lowers the price of the same in-stock item within 14 days of your order. Clearance and third-party sellers are excluded. Seen on REP Fitness's price adjustment policy, Oct 13, 2026.
• Wrangler: a one-time adjustment if a full-price Wrangler.com item drops in price on Wrangler.com within 14 days of purchase. Final Sale items, Black Friday and Cyber Monday pricing, and store or third-party purchases don't count. Seen on Wrangler's FAQ, Oct 13, 2026.

Stores with a guarantee to ask about

Target, Best Buy, Newegg, DSW, Bose and the Google Store each mention a price match guarantee or promise on their sites. Before you rely on it, ask the store which sellers it matches, how long you have and what's excluded.

Stores that say they don't

• YETI: says it doesn't price match with dealers or competitors. Seen on YETI's shipping and returns page, Oct 19, 2026.
• Dillard's: no competitor price matching and no refunds for later markdowns. Seen on Dillard's customer service page, Oct 19, 2026.
• Nikon: says it has no price match policy. Seen on Nikon's shopping FAQ, Oct 13, 2026.
• Western Digital: the WD store has no price match guarantee and won't match other retailers' advertised prices. Seen on Western Digital's terms of sale, Oct 22, 2026.
• Lenox: a plain no on price matching. Seen on Lenox's FAQ, Oct 13, 2026.
• Vivosun: no price adjustments, including during Black Friday, Cyber Monday or its Mid-Annual Sale, and no matching of Amazon or other platforms. Seen on Vivosun's return policy, Sep 29, 2026.

Most stores on Offertium don't mention price matching at all. Silence usually means no, but on a big purchase one question to support costs you nothing.

How do you ask a store to price match?

1. Find the policy page and note the window, the approved sellers and the exclusions.
2. Capture the lower price. Save the link and a screenshot that shows the date, the price, the item details and that it's in stock.
3. Compare the full totals. Shipping and tax can make the "cheaper" offer cost more, and some stores compare the full total.
4. Contact the store the way it asks: email, chat, phone, a form or a store visit. Include your order number if you've already bought.
5. Ask for the refund method. Some stores refund your card; others give store credit, a gift card or rewards points.

Can you use a promo code and a price match together?

Usually not. Monument Grills says orders that used a promo code aren't eligible, and xTool won't match a coupon-only price. Richer Sounds is the exception here: its Price Beat counts lower prices that come from voucher codes. If you have both a code and a match on offer, work out which saves more and use that one. When is a price match worth the effort?

On a big purchase, a few minutes of paperwork can pay off. Many of the stores above sell Electronics & Tech, Furniture, Mattresses and Tires & Wheels. It's also worth asking after you buy if a big sale lands inside the store's window.

This year, Black Friday is Friday, Nov 27, 2026, and Cyber Monday is Monday, Nov 30. Check the exclusions before you count on a holiday adjustment: Apple, Wrangler and Vivosun all rule those prices out. A few stores go the other way. Sony matches holiday purchases from Nov 1 to Dec 25 until January 16, and Microsoft Store lets holiday purchases from Oct 1 to Dec 2, 2026 be adjusted until Jan 31, 2027.
