Best Time to Buy a Mattress: Month-by-Month Guide

The best time to buy a mattress is usually a holiday sale weekend: Presidents' Day in February, Memorial Day in late May, Labor Day in early September, and Black Friday through Cyber Monday in late November. Those are the weekends when mattress stores most often run their biggest sitewide sales.

Spring can be good too, as many brands bring out new models and mark down the old ones. Big names in our directory, such as Mattress Firm, Casper, Purple, Tempur-Pedic, Saatva and JCPenney, follow the same calendar. Below you'll find the year month by month, the next sale dates, and 40 stores that sell mattresses, with the sales they've been running.

• Best bets: Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
• Next up: Black Friday on Nov 27, 2026, and Cyber Monday on Nov 30, 2026.
• Fall sales were on at several mattress brands in October.
• Quieter months still bring smaller promotions, so you rarely need to pay full price.
• Read the trial and return fee before you compare discounts. They can be worth more than the sale.

When do mattresses go on sale?

Mattress stores tend to line their biggest sales up with three-day weekends, when people have time to shop for something big. Many online mattress brands run a promotion almost all year. So the question isn't whether there's a sale. It's how big it is, and holiday weekends are typically when discounts go deepest and free pillows or sheets get thrown in.

New models are the other driver. Many brands refresh their lines in spring and early summer, and the outgoing models often get marked down to clear space.

What's the best month to buy a mattress?

Here's how a typical year looks. Every store sets its own calendar, so treat this as a pattern, not a promise.

When are the next mattress sale weekends?

• Veterans Day: Wednesday, Nov 11, 2026
• Black Friday: Friday, Nov 27, 2026
• Cyber Monday: Monday, Nov 30, 2026
• Presidents' Day: Monday, Feb 15, 2027
• Memorial Day: Monday, May 31, 2027
• Labor Day: Monday, Sep 6, 2027

Holiday sales often start several days before the date and can run a week or more after it. Black Friday sales in particular tend to begin early in November, so the weeks after Veterans Day are worth watching. Our Black Friday deals and Cyber Monday deals pages collect the offers as stores post them.

Is it worth buying a mattress in October?

It can be. Late October sits between two big moments. The fall events are still on, and Black Friday is about a month away. This month Leesa, Helix, WinkBeds, Nectar, Newton Baby, Ashley, Rooms To Go and FlexiSpot all had a fall event or a mattress sale going. Leesa's event runs to Oct 27, 2026, and Sleep Number's fall financing event runs to Nov 2, 2026.

If one of those sales covers the mattress you want and the trial is fair, go ahead and buy. If you can wait five weeks, Black Friday is typically the deeper sale. Our fall sales page lists more stores with a fall event.

Which stores sell mattresses?

Why do the trial and return terms matter more than the discount?

A mattress is hard to judge in a showroom and impossible to judge on a screen. A sleep trial lets you send it back after you've slept on it, but trials vary a lot. Some stores charge a return fee, some only take returns after a minimum number of nights, and some exclude sale items.

Before you compare sale prices, compare these:

• The length of the trial, and whether it starts at delivery or purchase
• Any return or pickup fee, and who pays shipping
• Whether sale or clearance mattresses can be returned at all
• The warranty length

Refurbished mattresses, which Emma and Simba sell in the UK, can cost less up front. Check their trial and return terms separately, since they may not match the new models.

How can you save more on a mattress?

• Check for a sign-up discount. Many stores offer one for your email, and it may stack with a sale.
• Look for free extras. Holiday sales often add pillows, sheets or a protector. Count them only if you'd buy them anyway. Our Mattresses & Bedding page shows current bedding offers too.
• Ask about price adjustments. If the price drops soon after you buy, some stores refund the difference. Our price match guide explains how.
• Use pay later carefully. A 0% monthly plan can spread the cost; one with interest can wipe out the sale. See our buy now, pay later guide.
• Buy the frame at the same time. Bed frames and bases often sit in the same sale. Our furniture timing guide covers the rest of the bedroom.
