Teacher Discounts: Stores That Give Educators Money Off

On this page

Many online stores give teachers money off, but you almost always have to prove you teach first. Most use a verification service such as ID.me, GovX, SheerID or VerifyPass, and some run their own form. Once you're verified, you get a code or a lower price at checkout.

Big names do it too. Nike, Office Depot, Lenovo, the Google Store, Bose and Steve Madden all have a teacher or educator discount, and Canva gives verified teachers its education plan for free. Here's how the checks work, who usually counts as an educator, and what each store offers.

  • Teacher discounts are usually grouped with others. Look for "Heroes", "Service members" or "Community" pages as well as "Teachers".
  • Have proof ready: a school email, a staff ID, a pay stub or a teaching license.
  • Check who qualifies. Some stores include college faculty and school staff; others mean K-12 classroom teachers only.
  • Expect limits. Single-use codes, full-price items only and caps on how often you can use it are common.
  • Teaching tools count too. Software and classroom stores often have a free or cheaper educator plan rather than a percentage off.

How do teacher discounts work online?

The store hands the check to a service, or to its own team. You prove you work in education once, and the store sends you a code or turns on a lower price while you're signed in. Because the discount is tied to you, you can't pass it on, and a code someone posts online usually won't work for you.

Teacher discounts often sit inside a wider program for military, first responders, nurses and teachers together. The amount is usually the same for every group in that program, which is why you'll see the same figure on a store's "heroes" page and its teacher page.

Which services check that you're a teacher?

ID.me

ID.me is one login that covers several groups. You verify your identity and your teaching role once, then a "Verify with ID.me" button on a store's page applies the discount. The first check takes a few minutes. After that it's usually one click. More of the stores below use it than any other service.

GovX

GovX started with military and government workers and now includes teachers at many stores. You create a free GovX account, verify, and then get the store's code from GovX or through a link on the store's page.

SheerID

SheerID runs inside a form on the store's own site. You type your name, school and role, and it checks them against its records. If it can't confirm you, it asks for a document such as a pay stub or staff ID.

VerifyPass

VerifyPass is popular with smaller stores. You verify once, and the store emails you a code, often single use and short-lived, so use it the same day.

Student Beans and UK teacher sites

A few stores check teachers through Student Beans, the same service they use for students. UK stores often work with teacher discount sites such as Discounts for Teachers, which hand you the store's code after you sign up.

Who counts as a teacher for these discounts?

It depends on the store. The most common groups are:

  • K-12 classroom teachers at public and private schools
  • College and university faculty
  • School staff such as librarians, aides and administrators, at some stores
  • Homeschool teachers, at a few stores, often with extra proof

Retired teachers and student teachers are hit and miss. Champion is one of the few stores whose page says retired educators are included. If the store's page doesn't say, ask support before you verify. A "teacher" program can also mean something else entirely: Manduka's teacher program, for example, is for yoga and Pilates instructors, not school teachers.

Plenty of other stores link a teacher program from their footer or menu. If yours isn't here, here's how to find out.

How do you find out if a store has a teacher discount?

  1. Check the footer and help center for "teacher", "educator", "heroes" or "community".
  2. Search the services. ID.me and GovX both list the stores they work with.
  3. Look next to the discount code box at checkout. Some stores put a "Verify with ID.me" button there. Our guide on how to use a promo code shows where that box usually sits.
  4. Ask support. Mention your school and role, and ask whether the discount covers your position.

You can also browse a whole category, such as Clothing & Fashion or Laptops & Computers, and open each store's page. If a store has a teacher discount, you'll see it there with the store's other perks.

Can you use a teacher discount on classroom supplies?

Usually, yes, as long as you're buying as an individual. Most teacher discounts are for personal purchases, so a school or district order on a purchase order often doesn't qualify. Makera's page, for example, says its educator offer is for individuals, not organizations. If you're buying for your classroom with your own card, the discount normally applies like any other order.

For supplies, books and classroom tech, start with Office Depot's teacher rewards, Scholastic's Teacher Store and Fat Brain Toys' educator program. Our Books & School Supplies page lists more stores in that space, and the Education category covers courses and learning apps.

When should you use it?

Teacher codes rarely stack with sale prices or other promo codes. Ring's page, for example, says its code isn't valid during sales events, and Cole Haan's can't be combined with other promotions. On a full-price order, the teacher discount usually wins.

During a big sale, compare first. Black Friday falls on Nov 27, 2026 and Cyber Monday on Nov 30, 2026, and some sale prices beat 10% to 20% off. Check the sale price against your discount and pick the bigger saving. Next summer, our Back to School page collects the sales that matter for a new school year.

Questions shoppers ask

What do I need to verify as a teacher?

Usually a school email address, a staff ID, a recent pay stub or a teaching license. Services such as ID.me, GovX and SheerID check your details first and ask for a document only if they can't confirm you.

Do retired teachers get teacher discounts?

Sometimes. Each store decides who counts as an educator, and many programs cover current teachers only. Champion's page says retired educators are included. If a store's page doesn't mention retired teachers, ask support before you verify.

Can I combine a teacher discount with a sale?

Usually not. Teacher codes often apply to full-price items only and don't stack with other promo codes. Ring's page, for example, says its code isn't valid during sales events. During a big sale, compare the sale price with your discount and use the bigger saving.

Does Nike have a teacher discount?

Yes, for school staff. Nike's promo code page listed 10% off most items for school staff on Oct 8, 2026. Open Nike's store page for the current terms and how to verify.
